Exploration Topic: Our Impact

Weekly Focus:  Self?


Focused Learning Activity for the week: 


GOAL: P-SE 9. Child recognizes self as a unique individual having own abilities, characteristics, emotions, and interests. 



Weekly Foundational Text:  The Goodbye Book by Todd Parr: A story about saying goodbye that touches upon the host of emotions children experience.



Weekly Teacher Reflections:


-In this book there are many feelings people might feel when they say goodbye. What are some of those feelings?


-Sometimes saying goodbye is really hard. Sometimes saying goodbye is easy. Will you tell me about a time when you said a hard goodbye or an easy goodbye?


-We are getting ready to say goodbye to our 3-K class. What are some of the things you will remember about our class?






Learning Centers Available for the Themes:


BLOCKS: Children are invited to explore the block area. Children will be motivated to explore unit blocks, and the teacher will invite children to notice two different kind of blocks cardboard and wood blocks and how they are different each other, what change one to another, and their different shapes.

 

DRAMATIC PLAY: Children are invited to go and explore the dramatic play center,  and they are encouraged to use the props provided. The teacher will model how to take care of the babies and notice changes on them. 

 

ART: Children are invited to explore and use the art area. They will be encouraged to use the props and manipulate them. Children will be motivated to to use craft materials and use their imagination to create new things.  

 

SCIENCE: Children will be encouraged to participate in the science area. Children can find a variety of natural objects, and they will be shown a few items from a natural objects collection. Children will continue observing the changes that the plats of the classroom. Children will continue taking care of the plants in the classroom to help them to grow. 

 

MATH: Children are invited to use the materials in this area. The teacher will introduce to children some objects that can help us to count and match them with its correspondents. Children are encourage to use the props provided.

 

LIBRARY: Student are able to explore books from the classroom library.

 

WRITING: Student are encouraged to explore the materials in the writing center. Children are encourage to explore and manipulate magnetic trace letters and take care of them. Children are invited and encouraged to explore their name cards and the ABCs letters. 

 

SENSORY: Student will be shown a small amount of sand as well as a few vehicles and small toys in the sand. The materials will be shown to then where they can be found and how to put them away.

Important dates to remember for PRE-K 7 

-Friday, June 10th, 10:00am - End of Year "Moving Up Ceremony" in the gymnasium.(Two (2) Adults Permitted per Child).Students are to arrive at the school at 9:15am and they go home to celebrate with their families after the performance. 

-Friday, June 17th, 9:30am - Father's Day "Donuts with Dad" Celebration over zoom.

GOAL: P-ATL 4. Child manages actions, words, and behavior with increasing independence. 



Weekly Foundational Text:  Llama Llama Mad at Mama by Anna Dewdney: Mama is too busy to notice that Llama Llama is getting mad. Before he knows it, he is having a tantrum!



Weekly Teacher Reflections:


-Why did Llama Llama get mad at mama?


-What did Llama Llama do when he got mad at mama?


-How did mama help Llama Llama feel better when he got mad? What are some things that make you feel better when you get mad?

Focused Learning Activity for the Week:


Math 

Children will be measuring different items using inch long links. 

teacher will also show children how they can be measured as well.

Foundational Text for the Week:

Little Humans by Brandon Stanton


Questions that will be asked throughout the week related to the foundational text:

 

  • What are some of the things the little humans in this book can do?
  • What are some of the things the little humans in this book need?
  • What are some things you can do?

 

 

Learning Centers Available for the Theme:

Blocks- Children are encouraged to use explore the block center. They will be shown a few unit blocks, shown where they can be found in the classroom, and shown how to match them to their outline in order to clean up.

 

Dramatic Play- Children are invited to explore the dramatic play area and use the props provided. Dramatic Play will be set up as a kitchen.  Teacher will introduce basic materials, how to use them, and how to put them away.

 

Art- Children are invited to explore the art area. They will be shown a paint container, brush and paper. Teacher will model how to dip brush in paint and paint a few brushstrokes on paper. Students will be shown where materials can be found in the classroom and what they should do when they finish painting.

 

Science- Children will be shown a few items from a collection of natural objects. Teacher will model how students can begin to explore some of the materials. They will be shown where these materials can be found in the classroom and how to put them away when finished.

 

Math- Children will be shown a couple of puzzles. Teacher will model how to take apart and how to put a few pieces together. Students will be shown where puzzles can be found and how to put them away.

 

Library- Students are able to explore books from the classroom library.

 

Writing- Students are invited to explore the materials provided in the writing center. They are encouraged to explore their name cards.  

 

Sensory- Students will be shown a small amount of sand and a few toys. They will be shown where these materials can be found in the classroom.

Weekly Foundational Text:  Safe in a storm by Stephen Swinburne: No matter loud the storm rumbles, next to their mothers the baby animals are able to let go their fears and fall sleep.



Weekly Teacher Reflections:


-What are some of the things in this book do to care for themselves during the storm?


-Animals have fur and skin that helps their bodies stay warm and dry when the weather is cold and wet. What are some things that people can use to care for their bodies when it is cold or rainy?


-This book is about staying safe in a storm. Let's think about some other types of weather. What do you do to take care of your body when it is really hot outside? What about when it is really sunny?
